Greece: When to Go

Greece tours are available year-round, though you’ll find the greatest variety of departures from March through October.

Greece has a Mediterranean climate that’s sunny throughout the year with little rain. Seasonal winds called the meltemi blow in off the Aegean to cool the hot, dry summer days. July and August are the warmest months, with average highs of around 90 degrees in Athens, for example. Summer is the high season for vacationers, but winter (November through March), spring (April through May) and fall (September through October) offer fewer tourists, so historic sites and other attractions will be less crowded during those periods. In winter, temperatures are mild in the low-lying areas, but snow can be seen capping the mountains.
