Greece has a Mediterranean climate that's sunny throughout the year, with little rain. Seasonal winds off the Aegean Sea, called the meltemi, cool the hot, dry summer days. July and August are the warmest months, with average highs of around 90 degrees in Athens, for example. The shoulder seasons of winter (November through March), spring (April through May) and fall (September through October) offer fewer tourists, so historic sites and other attractions will be less crowded during those periods. In winter, temperatures are mild in the low-lying areas, but snow can be seen up in the mountains.
